Speakeasy secret of San Diego
Hidden away in the heart of San Diego’s historic Gaslamp Quarter lies the Prohibition Lounge, a 1930s style speakeasy bar serving the best handcrafted artisan cocktails in town. Decorated in deep red hues with vintage furnishings, this local haunt offers an intimate atmosphere for San Diego’s stylish and sophisticated. Sip on a modern take of a prohibition-era drink made with seasonal ingredients whilst enjoying live jazz, blues and soul music. Try the ‘Donkey Show’ made with tequila, lime, hellfire bitters and ginger beer, sample an ‘Old Morgue’ made with bourbon, Lillet, Cointreau, absinthe and lemon or grab something from the scotch counter where over 40 single malts can be tasted.
Like that of traditional prohibition bars, this particular night spot is difficult to find – not because of its location but because of its authentic non-descript door and lack of signage. In fact, the main door is actually labelled as the ‘Law Offices of Eddie O’Hare’, from there you must ring a buzzer and a doorman will come to greet you and take you down to the bar. This is San Diego’s very own secret time-warp.
