The crown in the Santa Monica Mountains
Spend a day at one of LA’s most prestigious galleries, The Getty Center. Sat atop a hill in the Santa Monica Mountains, this travertine clad building is one of the most iconic sights in the city and holds some of the world’s finest art from medieval to present times. Permanent collections include pre 20th century European paintings, drawings, manuscripts, sculpture and decorative arts, as well as 19th-20th century American, European and Asian photography. A variety of changing and premier exhibitions draw visitors back time and time again and the building itself is an architectural marvel.
Designed by Richard Meier, The Getty Center is the epitome of modernity, with large open spaces, crisp white walls and spectacular views of LA. Beautifully manicured gardens surround the area and you’ll find at least 28 contemporary sculptures located throughout the gardens. Robert Irwin’s Central Garden being one of the most popular spots, with tree lined walkways, a stream and a variety of plants.
