World-class waves for serious surfers
As the epicentre of Santa Cruz surfing since the 1940s, Steamer Lane has earned itself the title as one of California’s best ever surf spots. Steamer Lane is located just to the side of the West Cliff residential area near downtown Santa Cruz and is known as one of the world’s most spectator friendly spots thanks to the waterfront cliffs. Steamer Lane is made up of 4 separate but overlapping breaks, each favouring a different type of swell.
The Point is a right-breaking wave which favours south to southwest swells and is best at around 4-6 feet. The Slot is also a right-breaking wave and favours north to northwest swells, Middle Peak breaks both left and right and is best with southwest swells. Both The Slot and Middle Peak can sometimes offer great tube sections but are most renowned for thick-based waves that are ideal for high performance moves. Indicator delivers 5-8 foot waves with a north to northwest swell and can also produce incredible 300 yard long rides.
