Acclimatise yourself to the warm California weather with a few days in one of the Golden State’s most famous cities, Los Angeles. With endless attractions, a fabulous coastal area and some of the world’s finest shopping and entertainment, immerse yourself in the city and soak up that renowned Los Angeles vibe.
Collect your Cruise America RV from the LA depot and take in the surroundings as you travel 130 miles to Barstow. A town which once saw The Old Spanish Trail and Route 66 pass through, discover a host of historical treats as well as two superb shopping outlets.
A two hour drive skirting the rugged Mojave Desert takes you to the city that never sleeps, Las Vegas. Take a walk up and down the famous Strip and marvel at the sights of the mega-casinos, luxury hotels and indulgent restaurants.
Your journey today will take you over into Arizona via the mighty Hoover Dam. With so much to see and do, the Hoover Dam itself is worth a pit stop. Explore this fascinating man-made structure which is used to power three states by channelling the Colorado River through turbines at a whopping 85 miles per hour. Then spend the night in Kingman, the gateway to Historic Route 66.
Today you’ll drive the longest remaining stretch of historic Route 66, all the way from Kingman to Ash Fork. Experience life along this iconic route and enjoy the scenery of the Hualapai Indian Reservation at Peach Springs. You can’t actually get to the Grand Canyon by road from here, so continue onto Williams where you’ll head north to the Grand Canyon and your campground.
As you travel south on InterState 17 you’ll gradually see the lush pine forests of the north disperse and transform into rugged desert vistas with giant cacti and sagebrush. During your 4 hour drive, and as you come through the Coconino Forest, make a stop in Sedona and discover some of the local attractions.
This day is all about getting you from Phoenix to Palm Springs, but it means you get to enjoy a stop in lovely Blythe overnight. Nestled in the scenic Palo Verde Valley and edging the Mojave and Sonora deserts, Blythe is a fantastic destination to enjoy the great outdoors and soak up the superb weather.
On your way across to Palm Springs on this incredible desert drive, make a stop at the Joshua Tree National Park and Salton Sea State Recreation Area to take in the fascinating landscapes. Discover all that Palm Springs has to offer, from the retro Hollywood hideouts to the superb upscale shopping.
The last leg of your journey takes you to the fantastic Pacific coast and the beautiful beaches of San Diego. Take a country drive through the edge of the San Bernardino National Forest and the scenic Cleveland Forest en route to San Diego. In San Diego you’ll find a whole host of attractions to discover, including over 70 miles of pristine beaches, the historic Gaslamp Quarter and SeaWorld.
