Get to know your Travel Director and fellow travellers during an organised Welcome Reception at 6pm.
The second day starts with a visit to San Francisco’s famous Saturday morning Ferry Plaza Farmer’s Market where you’ll join a local specialist for a food-tasting adventure. Enjoy lunch at your own leisure at Fisherman’s Wharf before stepping back in time to the era of hippies. Walk in the footsteps of Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix with a guided tour of Haight-Ashbury. Learn about the city’s iconic streetcars at the Cable Car Museum, then head to Chinatown for a trip to the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory and a delicious, authentic Chinese meal in the evening.
Now you have an entire day to explore San Francisco at your own leisure. Discover the city’s fascinating districts, each with their own character, and visit some of California’s most loved attractions. You can even head further afield to some of the surrounding areas. Your Travel Director will happily help you make any arrangements. Here are a few suggestions below:
Set off on a trip to California’s world famous Wine Country. Embark on a scenic journey through the countryside, enjoying lunch and sampling wine on board the vintage rail cars of the Napa Valley Wine Train. With an evening at your own leisure in Sonoma, perhaps you can head to historic Sonoma Plaza and try one of the many superb restaurants.
A day of delicious dining and fine wine awaits you. Start the day with a visit to an olive press in Sonoma where a local specialist will show you the harvesting process and how to make olive oil. Enjoy a leisurely lunch in the historic Sonoma Plaza and make time to browse the unique gift shops which surround the area. Head to the Ravenswood Winery where you’ll be able to create, taste and bottle your own wine in the private blending lab. In the evening you’ll join a hands-on cooking class at a famous culinary school. Here, you’ll prepare a gourmet four-course meal with your fellow travellers which you’ll enjoy with champagne and local wine afterwards.
Your day will be solely devoted to tasting all the flavours of California. Begin with a visit to downtown Napa and the Oxbow Public Marketing. Sample delicious, locally produced salami and specialty sausages, and indulge your sweet tooth with a tasting of decadent chocolate.
