Are you ready to question the laws of physics?
Are you prepared to have everything you ever thought about the laws of physics and gravity challenged? Welcome to Santa Cruz’s Mystery Spot. This visual illusion-based tourist attraction was first discovered in the redwood forests just outside Santa Cruz in 1939 and takes up a circular area with a diameter of 46 metres. You can explore the Mystery Spot via a 45 minute fully guided tour where you’ll witness puzzling variations of gravity and perspective. Throughout the tour your guide will stop at various demonstration stations, one of which shows an 8-ball appear to roll uphill.
The main attraction of the tour is the slanted wooden cabin where rooms are twisted and floors are askew, all said to be caused by powerful vortexes. Once you’ve completed the tour you can enjoy a lovely 30 minute hike through the redwood forest via a signposted trail, or stop off at the Button Shack to make customised badges, keychains and magnets. You’ll also find a Snack Shack and gift store on-site.
